Monroe vs. Rayville: the commute to the Holly Ridge gate

The Hyperion gate is in Holly Ridge, between Rayville and Delhi on the I-20 / US-80 corridor. Where you sleep changes both your day and your budget.

Drive times are rough one-way estimates for normal traffic, not measured routes. Shift-change traffic around the Holly Ridge gate, weather, and which entrance you use can add a lot. Sheriff Neal Harwell told The Advocate the site sees 5,000–7,000 vehicles a day.

Why the extra minutes matter

Hyperion workers commonly run long shifts, six or seven days a week. Business Insider quoted tenants leaving around 4:30 a.m. and returning around 7 p.m. Adding a Monroe round trip (~1 hour) versus a Rayville round trip (~20 minutes) is time you do not get back. Some workers living even farther west, in Calhoun, described a 48-minute one-way drive and 4:30 a.m. alarms.

Traffic at the gate

Sheriff Neal Harwell told The Advocate the site sees 5,000–7,000 vehicles a day, with an 18-wheeler about every 90 seconds, and wrecks up from about one a month to 70–80 a month. Off-duty deputies cover multiple spots around the site at shift change. Drive the route at the time you would actually go to work.
